Kid's Crafts

This is my daschund, Sandy.  Her "baby" is hiding under the blanket.  Her baby is taller than her but they are so adorable.

Cool Craft Projects!

Here we will provide some craft projects, chat, display your work and also your ideas.  I like quilting, cross-stitch and making cards.  I also do some beading, scooby-doo’s and reading.

My name is Emma and I am 15 yrs old.  I would love to hear from you and you can email me.  Send me your pictures, projects and ideas and we can play together.

I attend a monthly quilting club for kids which I asked a lady to start here and we call ourselves “Little Fingers”.  This was because I attended a group similar to this in the Eastern Cape and so enjoyed it and I missed it so much here in Gauteng.

This month we learnt how to make the bowtie block which we then proceeded to make into pincushions.  I was going to offer this as a project, but it is so confusing to understand initially.  Maybe I should still try explain it – what do you think? Perhaps I will try for next month if you ask for it.

I thought I would offer this as an item you could buy as a personalized gift for your mom or your granny or aunty for a birthday or Christmas present.  I can make it personalized for you and add her name on it to make it special.  My mom does some machine embroidery and will do this for us. Oh and you know what was cool?  We filled it with clean kitty litter as this helps to sharpen the needles and pins so they keep longer. It also makes it a bit heavier so the pincushion stays put in one place.

I will take photo's of it soon and post it for you to see. Here is my pincushion completed.

This pincushion sells for R40-00 (It is 4,5 x 4,5 inches in size, so it is nice and big)

Please complete our Order Form and state what colours you would like.  You will need to deposit the money into the bank and we will then post it off to you.  Please note this price does not include the postage, so after we have received your order we will contact you to confirm the postage and what you need to pay.  This makes a super gift for Mother's Day and for birthdays.

If you like we can add an embroidery/quilting scissors to this for an extra R25-00.  You can see the picture of it on the product page.

I have some other projects for you – this month we will make a beaded bracelet (which is really easy and anyone can make them).

 BEAD PROJECT

 Beaded Bracelet

 Requirements:

  1. Stretchy elastic which you buy at bead shops

  2. A beading board (easier to work on)

  3. Selection of beads you want in a bracelet. I like to use some seed beads with some bigger pretty beads in-between them.

 Method:

 1.    Using the beading board - I put the beads I want to display.  It is helpful to put them in the pattern you want first     then it is easy to load onto the elastic.

  1. Firstly measure your wrist with the elastic and add on about two extra inches so that you can use this to tie the bracelet.
  2. Slip the beads onto the bracelet.
  3. Tie the knot close to the beads.  Tie again twice more to ensure it does not come loose.
  4. Cut the elastic close to the knots ensuring you miss the knot though otherwise it will come loose.

Enjoy! You can make these for ankle bracelets too.

Let me know what you are making. I would love to hear from you. Oh also, check out the "Inchie" project on the craft page my mom has running - we can participate too. This is an ongoing swop.

See the Gallery for my first quilt I made at 9 years old.  It is called the "Cross of Jesus"
