Our newsletter's can be found here for February 08 and here for April 08, here for June 08. If you would like to send us a project we would love to hear from you. MONTH ONE - THE OHIO STAR QUILT We are making an Ohio Star quilts for charity. Whether you want to make this for yourself or loved one, or whether you would like to join us in making a block, we would be happy to include you in our friendship club. Here is a sample of some made by some special ladies overseas who donated them to us. Click on the picture for a larger view. As you can see these blocks were made in the colour scheme of yellow, blue and green as they are intended for very young mentally handicapped men. These are 12 inch squares. The challenge for this month is to make is to make more of these in the following colour choices: Yellow/Blue/Green Pink/Purple/Yellow Orange/Lime Green/Navy This is a very simple block to make - the instructions are shown below and we will refer to block 1 for ease of reference: Making the Ohio Star (sample referred to below is the far left block above) Cut the pieces - cut 4 by 4 1/2 inch x 4 1/2 inch square for outer squares (e.g. yellow) Cut two 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 inch square - cut into quarters (e.g. navy triangles) From green fabric cut one 4 1/2 x 4 /2 inch square - this is your middle block. Cut 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 inch square - cut 1. Cut into quarters for the inner yellow triangles.Sew the triangles into squares as above. You make 4 squares. Sew the squares into strips then sew each row together and your block is complete. You do not have to be a quilter to do this, but we would appreciate it if you only use 100% cotton fabric as they last better and we have to ensure there is a standard. Once quilts are completed we will post some of the pictures. If you able to sew up blocks for us or complete quilts we would love to hear from you. Let us know how you found this project. Challenge - This one is for you! FRIENDSHIP CLUB - Block Swop We are keen to start an appliqué block swop. The theme is "Outdoors". The backing fabric to be used must be tea or coffee dyed calico or seed cloth. Any colours to be used for appliqué's as long as they are 100% cotton. I will be taking your names for this club and will advise as to how many blocks you need to make (if there are 10 players you have to make 10 blocks). If you are interested please email me and I will co-ordinate it. Check out the newsletter for more information. I look forward to hearing from you all. Allyson
